I love animals. Luckily I seem to have a good eye for spotting them (probably part of why I love living so close to nature).
Here are the best animal photos and videos from the past week.

Just kidding, it’s a regular old Blue Belly (Western Fence Lizard), and this area is crawling with them. But this was on a hike to the highest point in the land (clearly not my backyard – note the presence of stone).
I just liked how he ran into this little lizard-sized cave and then stopped to see if we would go away.

Hard to see in the photo above, but that is a big coyote. I’m pretty sure that coyote is my spirit animal. Tom Brown Jr. says that most people don’t see animals when they hike because they make too much noise (and human speech in particular is the worst culprit). His advice for wildlife spotting is to sit down.and keep still and silent for a half an hour, and you will be amazed what you see.
I was just taking a rest and had only been sitting for ten minutes when this great big coyote came striding out into the field RIGHT in front of me. If my phone had been in my hand I could have gotten a great clear shot of him. But it was in my back pocket and I had to fumble for it as he headed away. He heard me and spooked, but I did manage to capture a tiny bit of video.
